Do you believe that we should bring artifacts up to the surface from the Titanic? I personally believe that we should not bring these valuable items back up. With the help of “Retrieval of Titanic Artifacts Stirs Controversy” by Brian Handwerk and the movie “Titanica”, I’ve gathered evidence that proving that the historical property at the bottom of the deep sea should stay below the surface. Who would want these memorable items bestowed in museums, when they could stay at the bottom of the sea to represent what happened on that horrific day? The memories of those who lost their lives can still live on, under the sea. Imagine bringing those items back up to the surface for selfish reasoning when they are perfectly fine down where they are now. Why would we want to remove those precious pieces of history? We can’t just take things from a burial site and move them up to the surface for no real reason. We should leave this place alone and let the people who lost their lives stay down there in peace. Also, as it states in the article, people who survived the shipwreck that past on had their ashes sprinkled over the Titanic. It’s not a good idea to disturb something like that. I understand, though, that some people want to bring things back up to the surface because they want to pay their respects that way, but who said we can’t do that through technology? Bob Ballard, an expert underwater explorer, said, “I have no problem with visitors. I think that will increase as technology does.” He gives us ideas of remote controlled moveable vehicles.
