To Kill a Mocking Bird was released July 11th, 1960 directed by Robert Mulligan. The main theme is that you should treat everyone equally no matter skin color. In to kill a mocking bird, Scout lives with her brother, Jem, and their father, Atticus, in Maycomb. Atticus is a lawyer and has to defend an African American man accused of rape. There’s a mysterious house that all of the kids have theories about. Mr. Nathan Radley, whose brother, Arthur (AKA Boo), lives in the spooky house for a long time. Boo never goes outside. Scout and Jem find gifts left for them in the hole of a tree near boos house. Dill, Scout, and Jem sneak onto the Radley property, and Nathan Radley tries to shoot them. Jem lost his pants when running away and when he comes back to get them he found them sewn and folded where he’d left them. Then, Jem told Atticus about his pants and the presents. Atticus tries to defend a black man named Tom Robinson, who is accused of raping a white woman. Since Atticus defends the man, scout and Jem get bullied at school. When Tom Robinson’s trial starts, and is placed in the local jail, a mob comes to kill him. Scout and Jem sneak out and scout makes one of the men in the mob feel guilty because she is innocent. Mayella Ewell and her father are lying: to the judge to get Tom Robinson put away. Mayella tried to have forbidden relations with Tom Robinson, and when caught by her dad she accused Tom of rape to cover it up. Even when Atticus proves that tom is innocent he is still convicted. Mayellas dad is the one who beat her up and he called her a whore. Bob Ewell tries to attack Scout and Jem with a knife in revenge for their dad embarrassing him. Boo saves them by stabbing Bob.
