To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is an impactful piece of literature that shows the racial injustice that people of color face. Published in 1960, this book takes place in a small town in Alabama centered around a young girl named Scout who sees the racism of the deep south first hand. Soon after the release of To Kill A Mockingbird, it was made into an award winning film. I think the novel is the best version and far better than the movie because it has more storytelling and character development, it is longer and more detailed in every situation and has more scenes in total. The movie lacks the suspense and message that the book contains. The book is more intense and really emphasizes the messages that Harper Lee intends for the reader to understand. Two examples of the character development are Scout and Jem. Scout begins to mature and starts understanding the reasons that Boo stays in his house at the end of the book when she is older. Jem also shows maturity and starts pulling away from his childness and hangs out less with Dill and Scout. When they are attacked at the end of the book, instead of running away like a child, he fights and protects his little sister and risks his life. At the end of the novel, when Boo killed Bob, Ewell and Mr. Finch doesn't want people to know that Boo killed Bob and saved the day because Boo didn't want all the publicity it would bring. He asks her if she understands why and she replies,"Well it would be like killing a Mockingbird''(317). In this sense that he did this great thing and he just wanted to be left alone like a Mockingbird would just want to sing and make us happy and be left alone. The novel also includes more situations.
