In my opinion, To Kill A Mockingbird better teaches and draws the reader’s attention than The Chosen by its more diverse plot, characters, and themes. Harper Lee wrote To Kill A Mockingbird with action and plots that would catch the reader’s attention. The Chosen’s storyline contains two boys who become best friends. Straightforward and easy to understand, no other stories or plots happened around it. No guessing or inferring were necessary, as the book explained any question or doubt within a chapter or two. From a trial, to a ghost, to mad dogs and missionary circles, To Kill A Mockingbird, on the contrary, mixed different stories and plots together, blending them to make an interesting novel. Scout, Atticus, Jem, Boo Radley, Bob Ewell, Tom Robinson, and many more characters in To Kill A Mockingbird make it a better book than The Chosen. These characters though diverse and countless, still find a way to build up their individual characters and help the reader understand them more. The Chosen’s four dull and tedious main characters such as David and Reuven act similarly with too much dialogue. No action happens, just World War II on the other side of the planet. With frustrating characters who do not care for themselves physically, I found The Chosen difficult and tiring to read. To Kill A Mockingbird’s varied characters outweigh The Chosen’s boring and routined characters. Lastly, I learned more from reading To Kill A Mockingbird than The Chosen. With a more climatic and extreme storyline, To Kill A Mockingbird tends to seem more interesting. Its recognizable themes, such as family, friendship, and segregation in communities, thread throughout the story to teach the reader subconsciously. The Chosen, however, bores readers. Its overdone dialogue goes on and on about repetitive topics, seeming with no end. Although To Kill A Mockingbird’s page numbers surpass The Chosen’s, its stories and cliffhangers make the reader want to keep reading, not put the book down and
