That exercise, gives your mind practice in understanding things. The more and varied you read, the more you understand. The more you understand, the more it reduces your ignorance and clarifies the world. The more your ignorance is reduced and more clarity you get, the smarter you feel and are perceived as such.” - Soham Mehta. As supported by the quote above, reading definitely helps us, as individuals, to become smarter and more capable of understanding. I strongly believe the value of reading is that it enables us to become more intelligent and literate.

One reason I believe this is to be true is my observations of the people around me. I’ve run into many people who are chosen to read aloud to the class. Keep in mind, I’m well aware of how often these people read which is, as expected, very little. They go on reading while fumbling on word pronunciation. However, when people who you always see with a book read aloud, they often read the paragraph flawlessly. This has lead me to believe that people who read books are definitely more literate than those who don’t, which, I think is the value of reading. …show more content…
