To Kill a Mockingbird
Now that I am done reading this very depressing book it's time to talk about a theme throughout the book and the one I have chosen is how Atticus is the standard or symbol of good morals and intelligence.

Throughout the book, many people are racist, constantly drunk, lazy, or just plain old and cruel. Many people in the text need to be more educated. Atticus has a heart of gold and is most often the one not only the kids go to for consultations but also clients and many of the townspeople go to Atticus for information or consultation.
Like Scout states in the first few chapters

Atticus has had a slight dislike of criminal law ever since his first clients. I know I am not meant to be mean but his first clients were idiots.
“Atticus had urged them to accept the state’s generosity in allowing them to plead Guilty to second-degree murder and escape with their lives, but they were Haverford’s…”

Atticus was also knowledgeable in botany as we see him studying a plant whose all parts are toxic and have purple flowers and an intriguing root system known as wisteria when he gives his famous quote.
