In the book To Kill a Mockingbird there is a saying that it is a sin to kill a mockingbird. The mockingbirds are song birds and are only there to serenade people and sing to their heart's' content. So, if you kill a mockingbird then you are committing a sin. So, there is a metaphor that Atticus Finch, Boo Radley, and Tom Robinson are all mocking birds because they are pure good and have never done anything bad in their lives.

First, Atticus Finch, he is a man who has no hate for anything or anyone. Atticus even went so far as even putting it into his kids to not to have hatred for anyone. Even when the children came home from school and asked if they could hate Adolf Hitler, Atticus said no. Also, when Tom Robinson was convicted of rape the only one that stood up to help Tom was Atticus even though Tom Robinson was black in a time when black people were hated. With Jim Crow laws, and a time with the K.K.K. who would walk into a black neighborhood and lynch them just because they are black. Also, the town of Maycomb was very judgmental of Atticus for helping a black man even going as far as trying to kill Atticus because he was blocking a mob from lynching Tom Robinson. Tom was a great man had kids and a wife and could not afford to do anything wrong. Still, the town said that he was guilty.
