But they can also have bad effects if you don’t play them properly.
The world we live in right now is full of technology. Some is used for entertainment, communication, and medical purposes. Many argue that some technologies are helpful, like credit cards and ultrasound machines, and some technologies are bad, such as nuclear weapons and some of the features found on smart phones. But one piece of technology that many argue is bad is that of entertainment, specifically violent video games. There is a company that places ratings on video games known as the ESRB (entertainment software rating board).
While there are some extremely violent video games available, these games have ratings keeping them from falling in the hands of many young children. Although many will argue that video games should be removed or more heavily monitored, they are not the main cause of violence in adolescents, and they can benefit children by offering them strategic thinking skills, learning opportunities, and stress relief.
Violent video games are not harmful to people because they do not provoke violence, they can benefit people in certain aspects hard to help otherwise, and they can actually calm the user. For example, one reason why video games are not bad for people is because contrary to popular belief, they actually help with calming the user and relieving some of their stress. “A 2012 study at Texas A&M...showed that both men and women who play violent video games long-term seem to be able to adopt mental skills to handle stress” (Dube para. 8).This makes clear that the statements of violent video games being portrayed as causing violence and aggression are, simply put, wrong.
Violent Video Games and Children Do Not Go Well Together Video Games contain age-suggested ratings for a reason. It makes sense for MLB The Show to be an everyone (E) rated game, because what content in the sport of baseball would be unacceptable for anyone to see? It also makes sense that Call of Duty is a mature (M) rated game because it contains inappropriate content not everyone is meant to see, especially children.
Violent video games have been blamed for everything from bullying to school shootings. Critics of these video games believe they cause people to commit violent acts in real life. These critics, mainly comprised of parents and other responsible adults, don’t agree with what the video games portray. Others say the video games cause less violence and are an outlet for anger and stress. Although violent video games have violent actions in them, teenagers should be able to play violent video games because there isn’t enough evidence to prove they make teens more aggressive, it could prevent violence, and violent video games are a fun and relaxing way to relieve stress and anger.

Studies showed that video games increase psychological awakening, it could also increase aggressive behavior, emotions and thoughts and finally let teenagers lose the sense of helping others. All these effects will be carried by aggressive young people. It’s true that video games are violent, but aggressive adolescents are more likely to be more attracted to it. Some games reward players for doing violent actions, so this will affect them negatively, letting them think that violence is normal.
By using these games, we can perform a “real world” to children and teach them how to deal with issues which happened in the real world. But violent video games have double-edged-sword effect. It can hurt enemies, also can hurt yourself. If you don’t control it well, you will hurt yourself. For decreasing this chance, you just don’t use it.
