One day in Salem Massachusetts, a girl name Betty Parris became very ill. The night before she became very ill, she was caught dancing in the woods with her cousin, Abigail Williams and many other girls. Back in those days dancing, or any fun at all was frowned upon. So when Betty became ill after dancing and she had nothing wrong with her health, Parris and others thought that it was witchcraft. To save herself from getting in trouble, Abigail confessed that it was witchcraft. This is when Salem started to become irrational, Abigail and the other girls started to blame people for witchcraft. There were a lot of people to blame for the injustice of Salem, but Reverend Hale, Abigail Williams, and Judge Danforth are the most to blame.

She was the reason why witchcraft broke out in Salem. As stated in the first paragraph, she tells the court who has committed witchcraft so she will not get in trouble. Why does the court believe her? The court believes her because she was the first one to say she “saw the devil”, and if she can see the devil, then she can see who is with him. In the beginning, Abigail blamed people who were not really influential in the community. However, when she realized how much power she had she used to get what she wants. Abigail had an affair with her boss John Proctor, a honorable man in the town. Although what John did was wrong: he realized what he had done, he fired Abigail as their maid, and went back to his wife. After John went back to his wife, Abigail still was not over John. When he came to town to see what was going on with Betty, she approached him by saying “Gad. I’d almost forgot how strong you are. John Proctor!” (1045). This shows how she never got over him. Abigail was so in love with John, she would do anything to take Elizabeth , Johns wife , out of his life. To take Elizabeth out of John's life, Abigail would have to get Elizabeth in trouble for witchcraft. She did so, by stabbing herself with a needle, and saying Elizabeth stabbed her. When Cheever came to the Proctors house to investigate her, he said “ Mr Proctor, I have little time. The court bid me search your house, but I like not
