Q: To what extent does sport impact the psychological development of youth?

From a young age sport has been a significant aspect of my life. Whether that is playing for my team on the weekend or playing sport at school, it has consumed much of my spare time and is a major part of my future goals. Sport gives people the opportunity to lead healthier lives and helps children socialize amongst those that they may not normally associate with. The combination of children and sport has interested me as I started sport at a young age. This made me consider whether many of my traits or qualities would be the same if I had not been involved in sport? Many questions came to mind such as, do parents force their children into sport at too young of an age and does forcing children into sport at a young age impact on their physical development? I decided to refine my initial question to the one stated above. I hope that from this research I will be able to uncover evidence on whether playing sport at a young age actually benefits the …show more content…

These sources will include media such as books on the psychology of sport; sport related magazine articles; Websites dedicated to sport and the mental health of children; interviews with younger children and those associated with young children in sport and surveys to be conducted by children and those that played sport at a young age.

Capabilities
During this research process, three capabilities will be developed and addressed. These relate to social and personal development, the development of the literacy capability and critical thinking capability. These will be developed by creating and distributing a survey related to the mental health of children. I also plan on interviewing and observing children participating in sport to have a better understanding of their point of view.
