Is Odysseus a Hero? Do you think that Odysseus is a hero? This book is called “The Odyssey” and is written by Homer. The main character of the book is Odysseus and he is trying to get back home to Ithica. Odysseus is a hero because he is smart, he is brave, and he cares for his men.

Odysseus is a hero because he is smart. Odysseus outsmarts the cyclops “Nobody- thats my name” (Book#9 Line#410). This shows Odysseus is smart and he used this plan to get away from the cyclops. It also shows that he is smart because he knew the cyclops would say that “Nobody” is blinding him. Odysseus came up with a plan to get rid of the suitors “Look, your crucial test is finished” (Book#22 Line#5). This shows that Odysseus is smart because he came up with a plan he knew that only he could complete.
