Together We Rise “In the U.S. 397,122 children are living in the foster care. 101,666 of these children are eligible for adoption, but almost 32% of these children will wait over three years in foster care before being adopted.” Many of these children are passed around to other families throughout their lives in the foster care system and have very little to call theirs. This is where Together We Rise comes in. Together We Rise is a non-profit organization that aids in the care of foster child. They come in a help foster children by making them feel like normal children. Not like they are just being passed around because no one want them. I have a true passion for foster children because my mom was in the foster care system and a lot of her brothers and sisters were too. I have heard stories of some of the families they have stayed with and what they had to go through when transferring to a different household and I would never wish that upon my worst enemy. Typically when you enter the foster care system you are given two trash bags to hold all their belongings. This is what they use to hold the already very little they have. On average a child will be in the system for 31 months before being adopted, and are in a minimum of three different houses in that time. It is not uncommon for a child to be in 20 to 30 homes throughout their time in the foster care system. So throughout all those moves they are given trash bags to place their personal item in.
