Good Morning. We are here today to determine if Mayella Ewell was telling the truth when she testified at the trial of Tom Robinson. There are no excuses for not telling the truth. Mayella claimed she was attacked and raped by Tom Robinson. I will prove that Mayella was not telling the truth and that it was her father, Robert Ewell, who attacked and raped her that day.
General Roscoe Robinson Born October 11, 1928 in St. Louis, MO to Roscoe Sr and Lillie Brown. Roscoe Senior was a Steel worker and Lillie was a Homemaker. Roscoe was a graduate of Sumner High School in 1946, where he was the class president. After high school Robinson wanted to join the military but was not old enough to be drafted. Roscoe decided to attend St. Louis University for one year and then from there he attended West Point Military academy in New York.
First, Tom is later shown in trial to be trustworthy and not have anything to hide. Second, Bob is well known to be an alcoholic and abusive person, meaning that he likely beat Mayella himself out of anger. It would explain why he does not call for a doctor, and this cemented by the fact that he does not take enough care of his kids. Third, Bob claims that Tom beat Mayella face on the right side, but Tom's left arm was unusable from when it was caught in a cotton
Oliver Hill became a strong supporter of equality. Equality is the state of being the same in number, race, class, or quality. Oliver Hill grew up in Richmond, Virginia on May 1, 1907. Graduating from Dunbar High School, Hill wasn't sure what he wanted to do for a living. He married a woman named Beresenia Walker.
Who was doctor death you ask? Doctor death was a man who killed many people. He is considered today to be one of the WORST serial killers. Harold shipman was a British serial killer who worked in England as a doctor. In 1970 Shipman went to a school called Leeds of medicine.
The prosecution led testimonies against Tom Robinson and it was obvious he was innocent. Heck Tate is the sheriff of Maycomb and he stated that Mayella had injuries on the right side of her face. If Mayella was hit on the right side, it would have to be from a left-handed punch.
Recently, a negro named Tom Robinson has been jailed for supposedly raping a white woman, whose name is Mayella Violet Ewell. This is certainly biased since the family of Mayella did not provide any fact or evidence, rather only one witness who could have easily lied. Therefore, Tom Robinson could have been falsely accused of doing something a man like himself wouldn’t do. There are several reasons that suggest that Tom Robinson is innocent.
The Biased Trial of Tom Robinson Tom never would've been guilty if it weren't for a biased courtroom. In To Kill a Mockingbird Tom Robinson is accused of raping a young white girl named Mayella. Tom Robinson had lots of evidence that he was not guilty but the community was against Tom Robinson. Here is some evidence that proves that the accusations were motivated because he was black.
He looked oddly off balance, but it was not from the way he was standing. His left arm was fully twelve inches shorter than his right, and hung dead at his side. It ended in a small shriveled hand, and from as far away as the balcony I could see that it was no use to him.” The reader can see from this quote that it would have been extremely difficult for Tom to abuse Mayella Ewell because he was crippled. It is here that the characters begin to see that Tom Robinson is most likely innocent in the court case.
Mayella was powerless in gender because she was always abused. “Mayella was beaten savagely by someone who lead almost exclusively with his left” (Document B). Based on this quote it shows that Mayella’s father had beaten her sexual, verbally, and physically. Tom Robinson also was crippled in his left hand which shows her father beat her. During the trial Atticus questions Mayella about if she loves her father and she response “he tollable, except when he is drinking” (Document B).
Tom was accused of raping a white woman who was Mayella Ewell, Mayella said he raped her while he was helping her with chores. She later on tells the readers that it was false allegations. The reason why she didn 't tell the truth at her first trial was because, Mayella was afraid of being embarrassed because she kissed a black male. She rather have an innocent man get charged with a crime than that. “However, Robinson was transferred from the state prison to Maycomb 's county jail on Saturday, two days before he stood trial on Monday, and Atticus had to defend him against a lynch mob”.
Is Tom Robinson guilty of raping Mayella? Well according to the testimonies of Mr.Ewell and Mayella, Tom Robinson had allegedly raped Mayella and beaten her. Miss Mayella Ewell said that Thomas Robinson had beat her, choked her, and raped her: ¨He got me round the neck, cussin´ me an´ sayin´ dirt-I fought´n´ hollered, but he had me round the neck. He hit me agin an´ agin-¨ (180). Something that the audience and the rest of the people in court notice throughout Miss Mayella's alibi was that she kept on changing it
They were all accused of a crime they did not commit. Victoria Price and Ruby Bates were the accusers when they “pointed [out] six of the nine boys and said they were the ones who raped [them]” (Linder, The Trials of the Scottsboro Boys). Bob Ewell was quick to accuse Tom Robinson of the rape crime while Mayella went along. On the trial stands Mr. Ewell states the he had “seen that black nigger yonder ruttin’ on my Mayella” (Lee 231).
Tom Robinson is a young African-American who's been accused of raping and abusing Mayella Ewell, a young and closeted white woman. Racial discrimination is hinted throughout Tom’s trial as Atticus Finch explains to Jem that a white man’s word will always win over that of a black man’s - "... In our courts, when it's a white man's word against a black man's, the white man always wins. They're ugly, but those are the facts of life" (220). Atticus explains to Jem that in the courts of Maycomb, a black man’s state of innocence or guilt is truly determined by a white man’s testimony.
First, Tom Robinson should have been found not guilty because he was right handed. Mayella the victim, was punched in the face on the night of the crime. On page 235, Mr. Heck Tate stated that Mayella had a black eye on her right eye
