Good Morning. We are here today to determine if Mayella Ewell was telling the truth when she testified at the trial of Tom Robinson. There are no excuses for not telling the truth. Mayella claimed she was attacked and raped by Tom Robinson. I will prove that Mayella was not telling the truth and that it was her father, Robert Ewell, who attacked and raped her that day.
Mayella Ewell, the prosecutor, blamed Tom Robinson, the defendant, of rape on the night of November 21, 1935 at Mayella’s home in Maycomb, Alabama. The trial brought up included Tom Robinson, Mayella and Robert Ewell, Heck Tate, and Atticus Finch. Heck Tate and Robert Ewell were the witnesses for Mayella’s side and Atticus was the lawyer to Tom Robinson. This was such an important trial, whether the event actually happened or not, because Tom is a black man and Mayella is a white woman. The evidence provided shows that Tom most likely did not rape or beat Mayella, but her father was the one who could have beat her.
Opening Statement for Mayella Ewell Mayella Ewell lied under oath and committed perjury because she was ashamed of kissing a black man and she was scared of her father. Mayella lied under oath by saying she gave Tom Robinson a nickel to break up a dresser for her and then he raped her. What really happened was that she invited him inside and she tried to kiss him. Here is the evidence that shows that Mayella was not telling the truth. “So he come in the yard an’ I went in the house to get him the nickel on ‘fore I knew it he was on me” (Lee 241).
This act of hers has left Tom in jail, and his children and wife alone. We hope you listen carefully and thoughtfully to seek the truth of Mayella Ewell's crime. She is said to have called Tom over to bust her chiffarobe, when he had gotten on top of her, then attacked and taken advantage of her.

On November 21st, 1934, Bob and Mayella Ewell claimed that Tom Robinson beat and raped Mayell. Mayella took the stand and went under oath to tell the full truth and nothing but the truth.
The evidence points out that whoever assaulted Mayella had to do so with their right hand as she was hit on the right side of her face. Tom Robinson could not have assaulted her as his left arm was basically useless after a saw mill accident. Tom Robinson did not rape Mayella Ewell! Atticus is a fantastic lawyer and he did an outstanding job with this case. He made almost everyone believe that Tom was innocent.

On November 21, Mayella Ewell lied because she was scared of her father and what he would do to her if she told the truth. The theme of this case is that Mayella thought she could get away with lying. Mayella Ewell said that Tom Robinson raped her and she went to court and lied about Tom Robinson. Members of the jury, the evidence in this case will show how Mayella Ewell lied about being raped.
Even though the jury found Tom Robinson guilty of raping Mayella Ewell, in that matter Atticus Finch, lawyer defending Tom Robinson, said that Tom Robinson was not guilty because he only has one arm and there is no way that Tom Robinson was able to hurt her while Bob Ewell is perfectly fine and
Tom was accused of raping a white woman who was Mayella Ewell, Mayella said he raped her while he was helping her with chores. She later on tells the readers that it was false allegations. The reason why she didn 't tell the truth at her first trial was because, Mayella was afraid of being embarrassed because she kissed a black male. She rather have an innocent man get charged with a crime than that. “However, Robinson was transferred from the state prison to Maycomb 's county jail on Saturday, two days before he stood trial on Monday, and Atticus had to defend him against a lynch mob”.
To Kill a Mockingbird Is he an innocent man, or not? Did he beat up Mayella Ewell? Tom Robinson, a black man, charged of the crime of beating up a white girl. I think Tom is very innocent in this situation because a doctor wasn’t called for Mayella, the witnesses stories didn’t match, and Mayella asked Tom into her house and started the conversation between the two. This is why I think Tom Robinson is innocent.
He could not have done everything that Mayella said he did, due to the fact that he one has one working arm. The other arm was caught up in a cotton grind. Further more, it would be highly unlikely that Tom Robinson could have beat and raped Mayella the way she said he did. In To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, during Atticus Finch’s closing remarks he says ,“Thomas Jefferson once said ‘ all men are created equal.”’
Link Deas, his employer, stated “I just want the whole lot of you to know one thing right now. That boy's worked for me eight years an' I ain't had a speck o'trouble outa him. Not a speck.” Mayella Ewell placed charges on Tom Robinson and accused him of beating and raping her. Anyone present during the hearing could see the mixed up stories and complications from Mayella and her father.
The saddening thing is, that the whole scenario started because Mayella attempted to seduce Tom, and her father found out. Filled with rage, Mr. Ewell beat his daughter, he found it unacceptable that his daughter fancied a black man. Then, he claimed that Tom raped his daughter to cover everything up. There are even cases such as Tom’s happening to this day, such as the case of Miguel Angel Peña Rodriguez Vs. Colorado. The jury was corrupted by bias thoughts which resulted in an unfair trial.
One of the problems with today's toxic products is how to get rid of it properly without harming the environment. Years ago and even these days it wastes is dumped into streams, rivers and oceans or buried underground. Toxic waste comes from several of sources and is known as the product of any toxic substance that is thrown away, well or unwell. Toxic waste is most commonly a result of manufacturing or industrial processes, but factories are not the only producers. Hazardous or toxic waste can also be created by individual’s, health-care facilities, and small businesses.
