I believe Tom Robinson isn’t guilty. Some ways I could tell this is how he presents his case, his mannerisms, and also how his injuries can make him unable to commit the said crime. The plaintiffs and witnesses supporting them did not present their information in that way. Many of the testimonies were conducted improperly, or weren’t said confidently. Hector Tates was very contradictory, Bob Ewells was disorderly, and Mayellas was abruptly emotional.
Bob Ewell claims that on the night of November 21st, he was out gathering kindle and heard Mayella “screamin’ fit to beat Jesus”. He ran towards the window to discover Mayella being raped by Tom Robinson. When Bob Ewell enters the house to assist with Mayella’s situation, Tom had already left the residence through the front door. After adjusting to the situation, Bob raced to Heck Tate to inform him about the issue. Bob Ewell provided that he saw the room was “slung about” as if “there was a fight”, resulting in Mayella to be “on the floor squallin’”.
Good afternoon, my name is Claire Gruber, it is my pleasure to represent the state of Maycomb and to serve as the prosecutor in this important case. On November 21, Mayella Ewell lied because she was scared of her father and what he would do to her if she told the truth. The theme of this case is that Mayella thought she could get away with lying. Mayella Ewell said that Tom Robinson raped her and she went to court and lied about Tom Robinson. Members of the jury, the evidence in this case will show how Mayella Ewell lied about being raped.
Good afternoon, my name is Lucy Caughey, and it is my pleasure to represent Maycomb County and to serve as prosecutor in this important case. On November 21, Mayella Ewell was the victim of rape, the crime was allegedly committed by Tom Robinson, who claims not to have done it. Mr. Robinson says that Mayella attempted to kiss him and grabbed him around the waist, while he was standing on a chair that broke because he fell off while trying to reach a chiffarobe Mayella asked him to break up into kindling. Mayella said he tried to rape her and beat her, there are two sides to the story. I believe that Mayella lied under oath, I believe she lied for a life, for it to not be her, for it to not be someone she knows behind bars for a crime that she didn’t commit.
I will remind you all that during his testimony Tom stated “[Mayella] grabbed me round the legs. she hugged me. She hugged me round the waist.” Mayella’s actions from Tom’s words signify that she took the initiative to get physical first, whereas Tom had only come to her house because he was asked to fix her dresser. All of this evidence combines to form one conclusion: Tom Robinson isn’t guilty of the charges he is facing.
Kirkwood, Madison Mr. Shipp English 1 CP 17, May, 2024 Original Title In To Kill A Mockingbird there are several times where the characters start to judge a book by its cover. During the book, there are multiple accusations and false statements that spread throughout the town. The characters who were set out to be bad were not always as they turned out to be. People are not always who we think they are going to be. At the start of the book, the townspeople viewed Tom Robinson as a scary person.
THE INTRODUCTION Good afternoon, my name is Brittney Gruber, and it is my oppurtunity to represent the State of Maycomb and to serve as a prosecutor on this case. On November 21, 1935, the defendant in this matter failed to search, investigate, and document a crime scene. At the finale of the case, and after you’ve heard all the evidence, we are confident that you will return with a verdict of guilty on the poor investigation and documentation.
The eighth amendment is related to the To Kill A Mockingbird story because they wanted to give Tom Robinson the death penalty for something he didn't do. He was accused of rape, but they didn't give him a fair trial. So it was cruel and unusual punishment and false testament in this situation. Black people would get death penalties or life in prison if they committed a crime.
The narrator states, referring to Tom Robinson, “His left arm was fully twelve inches shorter than his right, and hung dead at his side” (188). This shows that it would have been nearly impossible for Tom to effectively hurt her on the right side of her body. When Bob Ewell was testifying, Atticus asked him to write his name. This proved that Bob Ewell was left-handed, making it easier for him to have beaten Mayella rather than Tom. Regardless of all of the facts that contradicted the Ewells’ testimonies, Tom Robinson was still found guilty.
Even though the jury found Tom Robinson guilty of raping Mayella Ewell, in that matter Atticus Finch, lawyer defending Tom Robinson, said that Tom Robinson was not guilty because he only has one arm and there is no way that Tom Robinson was able to hurt her while Bob Ewell is perfectly fine and
First of all I think Tom is innocent is because a doctor wasn’t called for Mayella. In the script on page one Mr. Finch says, “Did anyone call a doctor?” Then Tate, the sheriff, replies, “No, sir.” This shows that even though Mayella was in serious condition no one bothered to call a doctor.
Although Mayella does not have a lot of education she knows one thing for sure is that people will take anything to justify convicting a Negro. Bob Ewell also makes sure to say he saw Tom Robinson do it. No matter how much of a sorry excuse of a person Ewell is people still take a white man's word over a black mans. The cherry on top of imposing Tom would be that he has gotten in trouble before with 30 days for disorderly
Is Tom Robinson guilty of raping Mayella? Well according to the testimonies of Mr.Ewell and Mayella, Tom Robinson had allegedly raped Mayella and beaten her. Miss Mayella Ewell said that Thomas Robinson had beat her, choked her, and raped her: ¨He got me round the neck, cussin´ me an´ sayin´ dirt-I fought´n´ hollered, but he had me round the neck. He hit me agin an´ agin-¨ (180). Something that the audience and the rest of the people in court notice throughout Miss Mayella's alibi was that she kept on changing it
Through the compelling court case of Tom Robinson and other relevant events, Harper Lee reveals that even in the most fair place to obtain justice, the courtroom, injustice has been and still is a part of society. Throughout most of the story, themes of injustice and bias, especially in race and gender, play a major role and impact the outcome of many events that take place. For example, the climax event of the book; the trial of Tom Robinson. Throughout the trial, the lawyer for the defendant, Atticus, repeatedly provides cunning and convincing evidence that shows Tom Robinson could not have been the attacker. Yet, in that time period, time and time again black people were convicted for crimes they did not commit, and Tom is unanimously convicted.
I slowly walk to Tom Robinson from the place I stood during the trial and pull out my handcuffs. I put the handcuffs on him and walk him out of the courtroom. As I walked out of the courtroom with Tom Robinson at my side I thought to myself that what if Tom had gotten a fair trial. What if all blacks had equal rights as white men. How would this change the world?
