The tools and techniques used by an artist create a theme for them and their work, whether they know it or not. Having a theme helps people identify an artists work. Creating a theme can be as simple as the colors or tones an artist uses. I will be analyzing work by Catherine Murphy, Fernado Botero, and Susan Moore.

Catherine Murphy is famous for her self portraits. They are almost always of her doing something (i.e. painting) which is very creative, I think. She uses oil on canvas to create her work. The techniques she used in her 1970 self portrait make her look tired and worn out. I was drawn to her hair and the area around her eyes. It seemed like she was trying to put emphasis on what she might have been feeling at the time the painting
