Creating a visually stimulating work of art, that engages the community, has its challenges; and yet, with those challenges I have stumbled upon my most significant endeavor. Assigned to produce a sculpture for an art class, I decided to construct a 3-dimensional disc-shaped work of art called Nightmare before Paradise. Exhibited on campus, the design depicts an understanding that we all have struggles before we reach our goal. Of course, the assigned illustration was perfect timing for finals week. Hanging from the second story, 16 feet of ribbed copper tubing formed a 5 foot diameter pendulous frame. Meticulously sewn copper wire, approximately 300 yards, fortified 80 pounds of precious and semi-precious stones. The narration represents a sailboat made of smoky quartz geodes floating on blue lapis and amethyst crystal water. An independent research study class, offered at Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC), will allow me to focus on my major of fine arts as well as study the effects of stress and art. Samples consisting of college students and local community volunteers will assist with the interpretation of healing art. Facilitating electrocardiogram, electrooculogram and electromyograms measuring brain waves, ocular waves and muscular activity with respect to artwork assist in the study. Therefore, considering a patient with muscular atrophy, psychological stimulation of the muscle tissue may possibly replicate exercise through the process of visual art. Correspondingly, I hypothesize that visualizing a piece of art may have the same psychotherapeutic effect as having been in a yoga class. Results of the study will transpire at a regional student conference and at
