The Great Depression lasted from 1929 to 1941 and juxtaposed some of the best and worst aspects of the human experience. On one hand, the Great Depression destroyed lives; as a result of the Great Depression, millions of people lost their jobs, their homes, and their ways of life. On the other hand, the Great Depression forced people to work together in order to survive; according to Doris Lindberg, “People helped each other.” Additionally, the Great Depression fostered a hardworking, thrifty, and tenacious character among those who survived it. Doris Lindberg is one of the survivors.
In 1772,one more event occurred which cause trouble between the colonists and great Britain, Lieutenant William Duddington(the ship Gaspee) crew members will board the ship and expropriate(smuggling)packages. The shipowners will lose all there $$ and goods then hurt the merchants they have traded.
In my book, A storm too soon,the rescue story of the crew of the Sean Seamour II, a 44 foot tall sailboat that got into a drowning hazard and sank during a storm 225 miles off of the coast of North Carolina. The hazard level of this storm was not known very well, while the crew didn 't even know what was going to happen. A very vicious and terrifying storm was headed right for them,but it was going to be worse than they thought. Soon, 80-foot waves started crashing into the area of where the boat was sailing, Captain JP Lutz, Ben Tye, and Rudy Snel were all prepared to access the lower deck of the boat where they would be safe.

Robert Ballard was known for his work in underwater archeology and discovery of shipwrecks. He joined the army in 1965 and requested to fulfill his obligation in the navy. His request to aiding in the navy allowed Ballard to design small, unmanned submersibles that could be tethered and controlled from a surface ship. Ballard’s works that were contributed in aiding the navy also contributed in searching for his first shipwreck, the Titanic. Robert Ballard was able to contribute his discoveries to America by the exploration of undersea technology, his relationship with the navy in cooperating with Ballard’s explorations, and the use of deep-diving submarines to explore the surface of the ocean and encounter abandoned or destroyed ships of past
Ship out of Luck is a novel about a family being invited to a free cruise ship by their friend Crawley for his birthday. The main character is named Antsy Bonano and he is always getting into trouble wherever he goes. He soon meets a character named Tilde, who is a stowaway and the captain’s daughter. She is smuggling illegal immigrants into the U.S by bringing them onto the cruise with fake IDs. Two major themes in this novel are the theme of trust and doing what you feel is right.
There are times in history that are significant for more than one reason and stand out because of the spark they ignite setting off a chain of other events. Of course to ignite something means the conditions are right to be combustible. The sinking of the U.S.S Maine has come to be one of those events which impacted not only the history of the United States but the world. The U.S.S. The tragedy at sea that was the USS Indianapolis has greatly changed how the US Navy is seen ever since the exoneration of the ship’s captain, Captain McVay. Most people tend to focus on the case and court martial of Captain McVay instead of the tragedy itself. In recent years the failure of the USS Indianapolis along with the approximate 300 bodies left in the sea with it have been discussed, exponentially so in Left For Dead by Peter Nelson. The information upon the sailors and their deaths can be easily found but yet most do not take the next step to see why these men died the awful, horrendous deaths they did. These men at sea were set up for failure in the boat and in the sea itself after the ship capsized.

Mystery Train’s mise en scene focuses on the differences in the characters journeys. By adding in recurring themes and objects Jarmusch separates the characters even though they are all in the same place. Throughout the film Elvis is a strong theme in each characters story. For Mitsuko and Jun Elvis is a constant source of debate with Mitsuko idealizing him and even believing there to be an abstract connection between the rock star, Madonna and the Statue of Liberty while Jun argues that Carl Perkins is the true king of rock ‘n roll. In the room where Luisa stays, by chance, with Johnny’s ex-girlfriend, Dee Dee, there is also a picture of Elvis – there is one in every room – which causes Dee Dee to reveal her story of dating someone nicknamed Elvis (Johnny).
How can an “unsinkable” ship sank after only five days ? The event was so dramatic that an inquiry by the British Wreck Commissioner was convened to discuss safety in shipping; the result was the first concept of the SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea ) International Convention [2], that prescribed numbers of lifeboats and other emergency equipment along with safety procedures, including continuous radio watches. This was one of the first international initiative to improve the safety in the maritime sector; another important step was the adoption of the ‘Convention on the Intergovernmental Maritime Consultative Organization (IMCO) by the United Nations Maritime Conference[6]. It is more than a narrative of adventure. In January 1897, the writer was shipwrecked and lost at sea for 30 hours. He and three other men were forced to row to shore on a ten-foot life boat. The short story was written several weeks after the harrowing accident.
