The monarch butterfly has been recorded to travel over 2000 miles in order to get to their summer breeding ground (Oberhauser, 2004).
According to Burns, “transactional leaders approach followers with an eye to exchanging one thing for another…these transactions comprise the bulk of the relationships among leaders and followers” (p. 3) Transformational leadership, on the other hand, involves influence, of and by, both the leader and the follower. It is a process of mutual influence. Leaders not only lead, but also develop other leaders. Expanding on Burns’ distinctions, Bass (1995) asserts that “Transforming leaders convert followers to disciples…and provide followers with a cause around which they can rally” (p. 467).
There is a clear difference between transaction, transformative and transformational leadership. Transformational leadership has the potential to satisfy the academics and the social justice to meet the complexity of diverse society and our education system by challenging inappropriate use of power in search to create equality and justice society rather than inequality and injustice, whereas transaction leadership foundations are based on a mutual agreement of exchange between leadership and other organisational members and transformational leadership focuses on improving process, organisational functions to improve effectiveness and outcomes (Gunter 2009 and Shields
Introduction The most complex and dynamic organizations to control and to manage are the healthcare organizations. The nature and the structure of the healthcare organizations necessitate the managers to provide both the leadership controls and the management of powers to all the stakeholders in the field (Kelly 2011). Indeed, the constraints and the scope of the roles and tasks carried out to provide efficient services to the general public are so diverse that a single staff can’t operate on their own without the help of the other individuals. For proper functionality of the organizations in the health sector, coordination and the management of powers is crucial as it ensures the objectives of the firm are achieved.
In this essay, I will attempt to apply various concepts of leadership that we have covered through the course of this class by reflecting upon my academic commitment as a student, and developing my leadership style related to the results that I am attaining while I am at this University. At the end of this academic year, I hope to have passed all my registered courses with a grade point average of 3.0. Passing all my courses will mean that I will be a few steps away from completing my program and that in itself brings a sense of achievement and pride in myself. It will also bring out the feeling of self fulfilment in how far I have come.
“The study of history has been a study of leaders – what they did and why they did it” (Bass, 2008: 4). New contemporary styles of leadership have emerged that arguably are more successful in the long term (Dawson & Andriopoulos, 2014). This report critically evaluates different styles of leadership to determine if a transformational style will have a more decisive effect on employee motivation and organisational culture culminating in long term prosperity of the business. Fresh perspectives to leadership are required if organisations are to be successful in times of change while at the same time increasing employee morale (Conger, 1999). Studies done by Burns (1978) differentiates between transactional leaders and transformational leaders.
The second theory-based change that I could make is handling conflict with a smile. This is related to the service leadership theory because all leaders deal with conflict (Daft, 2014). I have to learn that conflict is nothing personal, it’s just business. Maybe a smile isn’t always appropriate, but stress isn’t worth it.
TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP Transformational Leadership is defined as leadership style focused on effecting revolutionary change in organizations through a commitment to the organization’s vision. (Sullivan & Decker, 2001) Transformational leaders are usually given higher position and are known for their charismatic sense and ability to develop high visions and regards in the work they do. They often give their best performances due to the low morale or self esteem Example: Steve Job, Bill Gates and Ratan Tata. As the existentialist rightly said, we always have a choice, in doing what we already have done or doing that which we have never done.
Developing yourself as a leader is a never-ending process. Even the most effective leaders must be cognizant of the different leadership styles and when to properly apply them. Within the next three to five years, I would like to develop myself in all aspects of leadership. The concepts that I identified as most valuable in the modules that we went over were team roles, the three elements of flexibility, the Air Force core values, developing airmen, and the five styles of effective negotiation. I will apply these concepts to my leadership development to work toward my goal of becoming a transformational leader.

Leaders are meant to motivate employees and augment productivity and efficiency through communication and high visibility. This style of leadership really does need the involvement of management to meet goals. Leaders focus on the big picture within an organization and delegate smaller tasks to the team to accomplish goals. Transformational leadership proves to be efficient not only in business, but in all other sectors where it is used.
1) Question: If you were consulting with the HTE board of directors soon after Harold started making changes, what would you advise them regarding Harold’s leadership from a transformational perspective? Answer: Firstly, transformational leadership is a process that does exactly how it sounds, it transforms people. Through this sort of leadership, it is involved in being concerned with things such as standards, values, ethics, emotions, and long-term goals. If I were consulting with the HTE board of directors I would advise regarding Harold’s lack of awareness for those around himself and how that was making him an ineffective president.
Transformational Theory Transformational Theory is a leadership style applied where the leader act as changing agents in the organization which the leader itself want to change and transform the organization to become better. The leader also try to develop role and commitment to the employee toward the achievement of the organization goal. This leadership style rarely applied in the organization because most of the organization just want to maintain the current practice unless for the organization that started want to transform to become big organization. There are four elements of transformational leadership which are: a) Develop and communicate a strategic vision The leader develop new strategies and challenging vision toward the achievement of the organizational goal.
This is not the only component that transforms an organization from poor or average to great, transactional and transformational traits on a leader and organization mind-set can be an addition and the right combination to level 5 hierarchy. The goal of this critique is to highlight the possibility of coexistence between Transactional, Transformational and Level 5 theories and determine their interactions using a comparative and quantitative approach in the attempt to create a tool for personal leadership development.
