This group is for Transgender individuals; these individuals are people whose gender identity does not match the sex assigned to them at birth. This group would give the Transgender community an opportunity I learn about themselves and how else to deal with the acceptance or lack of acceptance of others in their lives when they come-out. Coming-out is a never ending process, where an individual share with other people about their identity, in this case their Transgender Identity (Clarke, V., Ellis, S., Peel, E., & Riggs, D., GLSEN). According to a study done in 2011, there were nearly 700,000 Transgender individuals in the United States (Gates, J., Mottet L., & Tanis, J. 2011). This number would have gone up since this study has come out.
The reason that I would construct this group is that Transgender individuals have an increased risk of being bullied, depression, self-harm, and suicide …show more content…

To help identify the internal problems that it causes for them, and how to cope with these problems in a health way. This therapy would also help with the clients’ self esteem because if they are able to identify why they do not have acceptance for themselves they would be able to improve on this problem.
Gestalt Therapy is another theory I would use because it focuses on the here and now. It allows the client to deal with problems that they had in the past with acceptance or unacceptance to the present to deal with. I believe bring the problems from the past into the present would help the clients deal with the challenges of acceptance they have with their Transgender identity.
Incorporating all of these theories together would be the most beneficial to the clients. However, during the sessions some theories might work better then others so the leader would have to be aware of the way the group is going, and what would be most
