We continuously strive to improve the health of the community we serve and become the provider of choice for Health Care delivery and education" (Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, 2012). The biggest gripe that anyone should have with this is just how generic it sounds. This mission statement does nothing to make this organization stand out from any other ones in the area. On top of this, there was no vision statement to be found. Even though it does mention is it a safety net hospital, there a good chance that the people they serve would not understand what this means, It is something that needs to be stated in plain terms.
The four spheres of political action in nursing are government, workplace, professional organizations, and community. They are all interrelated and interconnected. The government enacts policies that govern and affect all spheres. Healthcare policies are often made to ensure access, quality, and affordability of care. It determines the scope of nursing practice at a state level.
Given the pressure surrounding service delivery in the healthcare organizations, the board of members and senior administrators are seeking practical ways of refining the way they set priorities under resource constraints versus the increasing demand. The ethical challenges surrounding the practice environment pose weighty concerns among the healthcare leaders on effective decision-making principles and approaches that could help them in setting priorities. Accordingly, strategic planning plays a critical role in healthcare organizations. Perera and Peiró (2012) consider strategic planning as an entirely valid and valuable tool that guides organizational practices. The process needs to be programmable, rational, systematic, holistic and integrates short, medium, and long-term aspects to help healthcare organizations to focus on the relevant enduring transformation for the future (Perera & Peiró, 2012).
The mission statement for my current place of employment is “Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life. In recognition of this commitment, we will strive to deliver high quality, cost-effective healthcare in the communities we serve.” Within the facility mission statement there are also 4 value statements that sets the foundation for the mission statement. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital has a current mission and vision statement, along with a group of core values with an emphasis on being a leader for improving the health of children. The current mission and vision statements are well formulated. Yet, there is room for improvement. By expanding the mission to incorporate reaching a global pediatric population through invaluable research, education, collaborative efforts and community involvement, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital vocalizes the intent to improve pediatric health on a broad scale through work accomplished by the institution.
