Businesses can differ greatly in the services they offer or Goods they sell. One thing that all businesses have in common is that they have a mission or vision statement that they use to define themselves and what they are about. The Arrow Head Medical Center in Colton, California has a mission statement that is not strong, is very generic, and for the reasons is probably why it is not displayed anywhere on their website. To give them a stronger identity to the community, and more tangible goal to reach for internally, it is necessary to create a new mission statement for this organization. The biggest gripe that anyone should have with this is just how generic it sounds. This mission statement does nothing to make this organization stand out from any other ones in the area. On top of this, there was no vision statement to be found. Even though it does mention is it a safety net hospital, there a good chance that the people they serve would not understand what this means, It is something that needs to be stated in plain terms. It can be assumed that since they already made the claim to being a safety net hospital that they already served the poor and disenfranchised people of San Bernardino County. They would already have a system in place to make sure that they are offering value-based service since a large portion of people they would see would not have health benefits. On the front end, they would have to spend more time with patients and thus spend more money making sure patients better understood their own health needs, in the long run, if they do learn, it's greatly beneficial. The reasoning behind this is that when someone better understand their own health needs, they can take better care of themselves than they could before and subsequently need less medical attention. One way to offset this cost is working with oither large community players. Some companies are willing to pitch in since donations are tax right offs, it is also good publicity and raises community awareness of their brand, and then there are those who just want to give back to the community and help. It would have to be a long-term plan since the returns on investment would not be seen for some time. It would take a lot of little steps such as outreach events that help educate and inform people.
