How Climate and Geography Affected Mendocino Mendocino is a nice little spot by the ocean with lots of redwoods, oh and it’s really, really, isolated. The town was founded in the 1850’s and was originally a Pomo settlement called Buldam, then became a logging town and was actually named Meiggsville after Henry Meggs, and eventually became Mendocino after the spanish explorer Antonio de Mendoza. So the Pomo were a Native American tribe that was linked by location, and language, and less by political and social links.

Due to the rapid increase in temperature in relation to the increase in greenhouse gases emitted a vast array of different issue arise. When we look to see the effects of these hazards it is good to start in the Polar Regions. In this paper, I will discuss the factors of both Antarctica and Central Texas and their correlation of climate change with its effect on biomass/biodiversity. Antarctica is drastically different from Texas with it being located on the South Pole.
The most thought-provoking book I read this summer was The Hot Zone by Richard Preston. Not only is this book fast paced keeping you with the urge to read but it also focuses on real events leaving the reader to wonder why it is said that history repeats itself. I chose this book to focus on because of the close connection the story seemed to hold to recent events in history. The Ebola outbreak was the center of the media’s attention recently because of all the harm it caused in Africa and the fact that a virus could be so destructive, managing a large scale outbreak, is a massive threat to life as we know it. Fifth Favorite Essay out of Top Five “Everglades’ Change in Environment” made my top five because I had many different types of information on the Everglades and I supported each reason by using explicit textual evidence. Although my conclusion was only a couple of sentences, I think that it summed up the whole essay perfectly. Harm de Blij’s Why Geography Matters: More Than Ever explains the necessity of geographic knowledge in today’s society and the need to further expand interactions within the United States and other countries. This novel expands on the economic, cultural, physical, and political geography of our nation. De Blij outlines on the importance of geographic thought by focusing on climate change, terrorism, the rise of states, and development in Africa.. I believe that while geography has proven to make a noticeable difference in the knowledge of our vast world, it will require an extensive amount of effort in order to make geography known.
