The lifestyles of the impoverished and the affluent create major cultural differences and result in the separation of the poor from society.

Those who live in poverty experience hardships day in and day out that makes life tough and prevents them from rising above the poverty line. No matter where a person is, if they are living under the poverty line, their living condition will be very poor. The poverty line was created to “determine if a family has the resources to meet basic needs” (Warner), and so, if anyone is under the line, they are not able to meet the basic requirements for living by themselves. Those more affluent people seem to treat money less seriously than those who aren’t as well off. The life of a rich person is well described by the article “True Life: I’m a Hamptons Teen”. In this article, the interviewee described how often she would go shopping and how many parties she goes to and how “The Hamptons is a safe haven for getting into trouble” (Roche). The affluent people in the Hamptons live a simple and carefree life, since they can’t even get in trouble for breaking the law because they have money to get out of said trouble. To them, money isn’t a problem or even that big of deal, since at one point in the interview, the question of how much the allowance is for the average Hampton teen is, was answered with, “For a lot of us, it’s unlimited”. That’s a ridiculous notion because so many people in the world struggle to make enough money to live, but these teens spend more than some people’s yearly salary. These teenagers are easily able to continue living their expensive lifestyle, since they have access to large sum of money, which is entirely unfair to people living in
