1. Source B mentions that the reason for Truman dropping the bomb was to save American lives, but it was a speech to the nation. Source A transmits a completely different message. It mentions that “the end of Japanese war no longer depended upon the pouring in of [the Russian] armies.” They way this phrase is interpreted is that Truman dropped the bomb because he no longer wanted the help of the Soviets so he didn’t have to share the reward, which was Tokyo. In conclusion, I believe that Truman did drop the bomb to rescue American lives, but that was not the main reason; the main reason was to keep the price and don’t share it (Tokyo) the way Berlin was.

In my opinion, Hiroshima caused the cold war. At Potsdam, Stalin was meeting two guys that he didn’t know; they were not his “buddies” like Churchill and Roosevelt, he didn’t fight the war with them, he didn’t trust them. Truman was the opposite of Roosevelt; he hated Communists, that’s why he and Stalin didn’t work very well together. Attlee was more like a peaceful guy, not the same personality as Churchill had. At the beginning of the conference, Truman didn’t show so aggressive like at the end, he wanted to impose his ideas over the others. Roosevelt, at Yalta, asked Stalin for support in the war in the pacific, but Truman condemned this decision and decided to carry on his plan on bombing with this new weapons Hiroshima, so he could keep the entire price for his country. There were odds between the two presidents and the Prime Minister of the UK; they didn’t accept the ideas from the others, especially Truman and Stalin. They didn’t stand each other, and the debate held in Potsdam wasn’t heading anywhere, the Cold War was inevitable, but the real game changer was the nuclear weapon. Without these nuclear weapons, the Cold War wouldn’t have been as scary as it was. So I believe that Hiroshima caused the Cold War, but it was not the only issue that contributed to this worldwide
