Turtle in Paradise by Jennifer L. Holm is about a girl named Turtle, the protagonist. The antagonist is the society. She lived in New Jersey but moved in with her Aunt Minnie to Key West, Florida because her mom worked as a maid and her client didn't allow kids. When she got to Key West, her aunt Minnie had three sons, Beans, Kermit, and Buddy. Off the bat, Beans did not like her at all and always had something snarky to say. They had a “diaper gang” that took care of the crying babies. Aunt Minnie told the kids that one of them had to feed Nana Philly, who is a really mean elderly woman. No one wanted to do it, so Turtle stepped up and did it. Everything was going fine until Turtle found out that Nana Philly was her grandma. One day she was going to feed Nana Philly when Smokey, her cat, fell on the piano. When she was getting smokey out of the piano she found this really old mad machine that had a big red X on it. She showed Beans and his friends and they said that they should follow the map. They went out really early in the morning and stole Johnny Cake’s boat. They finally arrived at the island, they searched forever, but they finally found the gold! They went back to the boat and they realized it was gone, they forgot to anchor the boat. Stranded on the island for days with no food, no water, and the very next day a big hurricane hit. They saw a boat in the distance and realized it was Slow Poke! Slow Poke brought them back to Key West with the treasure.. When they arrived, Turtle saw her mother with Archie, her mom’s fiance. She was so happy that she saw her mom. They split the gold evenly with each other. They spent the night in a hotel, but Turtle wanted to say goodbye to her aunt and kids. They said their goodbyes and realized that Archie was
