Atheistic Satanism is one of two forms of Satanism. Beginning in 1966, there is an abundance of misinformation. However, many people are simply uninformed due to misinterpretation, as there is with many religions, issues, or people, in the media. In all actuality, Atheistic Satanism holds beliefs are far from what is portrayed. Two forms of Satanism are mainly practiced. The two categories consist of Atheistic Satanism and Theistic Satanism. The latter is the belief of Satan as a deity whom they worship. The latter, also known as LaVeyan Satanism, holds up values such as individualism, egoism, self-deification, self-worship, and epicureanism. LaVey preached that we are no different than our coinhabitants on Earth and that we have our drives that we must follow. Part of LaVey’s description of Satanism is the nine Satanic statements which describe the requirements of putting yourself and your needs above all else. The first statement addresses the indulgence of pleasure over abstinence from what you want. The fifth statement preaches to avenge yourself rather than turning the other cheek. The sins cover a plethora of themes. The first sin is stupidity, which goes along with sin number five, herd conformity. You do not want to follow the ignorant and be blind to what is happening around

you. Sins two, three, and eight are pretentiousness, solipsism, and counterproductive pride. These three go together hand in hand as they all state that you should not think too highly of your intelligence as compared to others. There is not a clear list of holidays that LaVeyan Satanists must celebrate. However since it is a self centered religion based on your own desires and wants, the Satanist’s birthday is extremely important. The birthday should be celebrated how ever the Satanist chooses and should be a day celebrating them. Christmas is also perfectly acceptable. Since it is a holiday stemmed from a Pagan tradition it has been deemed acceptable for LaVeyan Satanists to celebrate. Santa Claus apparently signifies indulgence and is based off of the Greek god Dionysos and Roman god Silenus. Yule was originally a celebration of life amidst dead winter for Pagans. Because of its Pagan roots and celebration of living and indulging, Yule is a perfectly fine holiday for LaVeyan Satanists to celebrate and
