In her novel, The River King Alice Hoffman uses a motif to reveal a related idea about love and people's attempts to escape it. A motif is a distinctive repeating feature or idea that helps develop other narrative aspects such as theme or mood within a piece of literature.
In the story “By the Waters of Babylon,” we come across fascinating characters throughout the story as the protagonist John the son of a tribal priest explains his journey and strive for success as the story goes continues. The other character we come across in the story is John 's Father who conducts the ceremony initiating his son to tribal to the tribal priesthood. In addition, we meet John 's Brothers who are the hunters in the story. Finally, the Forest People are the Ignorant rivals who are in the Advanced society in which John lives, we remember John saying he has fought these people. In addition, a theme in a story or narrative is a mood set throughout the story.
King James of England A king is a male ruler of and Independent state, especially one who inherits the positive by right of birth. The role of the king is to generally ruler over a kingdom. A king writes laws, signs documents and cares for a country. A very well know king that takes responsibility of a leader is King James of England.

Choosing a few of the many events from the Old Testament and classifying them as main events, is a hard task to complete since there are so many. The Creation, The Great Flood and the Ten Commandments are a few that are commonly talked about and discussed.
