Gender Stereotypes Throughout the history of this world, it is not surprising that men have always dominated so many occupations because of division of labor that is determined by the society we live in. Sometimes too there is this tendency that men should occupy or women should do a particular kind of jobs because of cultural views or the culture in which a person belongs to. Again, attention has been drawn to same-gender bullying and yet little emphasis has been drawn to girls who bully boys or boys who bully girls. In Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, Angel faces gender stereotype and discrimination at work because she is the only woman working as a firefighter in a male dominated job. She fights all odds to make sure that she is respected at her workplace. Also, Malik is supposed to be a guy who should stand up against bullying but is being bullied by a girl in school. …show more content…

In Season 1 episode 12 “The Buck Stops here,” the male firefighters were shocked to see Angel as their new co-worker and in Season 3 episode 16 “Respect me”, Angel is not being treated well by the new guys at the fire station since the men object to Angel working there. Angel takes things into her own hands and tries to explain to the guys that she should be respected by them the same way they would do to their fellow male partners. Many societies have excluded women from doing certain kinds of jobs. As society is gradually changing, many women have decided to take bold steps to serve in occupations which are tagged “male occupations” from which they have been excluded from. Examples of some of these male dominated occupation were the fire service, military service, law enforcement and among others. It is not surprising that Angel wants his co-workers to accord her the same respect they would give to other male
