Successful leaders rely on their strengths in interpersonal skills to create a vision, establish a constructive climate, and build community among members of their group or organization. A major component of effective leadership is the leader’s ability to create a vision. The leader’s creation of a vision for an organization or group is paramount in establishing expectations, goals, or boundaries for members. Leaders are responsible for getting members or followers to “share [their] vision” (Northouse, 2015, p. 149). In Introduction to Leadership: Concepts and Practice I learned the significance of a leader formulating and communicating their vision.
Another valuable resource to use as a reference during the dailies of administration is Understanding by Design (UbD). In UbD, Wiggins & McTighe suggest the use of a backward design model to create instructionally sound curriculum (Wiggins & McTighe, 2005, p. 18). “Backward design calls for… [teachers and instructional leaders] …to make…goals or standards specific and concrete in terms of assessment evidence as [one] begins to plan a unit or course” (Wiggins & McTighe, 2005, p. 20).
