The epic battle has begun in New York City. And it's not Mets versus Yankees. It's the NYC Taxi Commission against Silicone Valley’s baby: Uber. As a newly minted resident of Manhattan I have found getting around to be easy and simple. The subway system if amazing, but when its two o’clock in the morning there is an avoidance at all costs. About ready to leave a restaurant or party I have two options: hail a cab on the street or request an Uber. And every time Uber has won. The application greatest feature is its simplicity. They have enlisted the help of Mayor Bill de Blasio in order to curb Uber’s expansion and impose barriers to entry. One reason that there has been heavy resistance to accepting Uber is because it would require a reexamination of the whole NYC taxi law that has been in place since 1937. The wealthy and powerful fleet owners who want the status quo because it's working for them, but it's not working for the people. Another argument made by the city is the problem of congestion and how Uber drivers have been causing added congestions especially in the lower Manhattan area. Actual data from the NYC Taxi Commission shows that there has been a nearly one to one displacement of taxi rides by Uber. So there haven't been increased cab hails, the number has been consistent its just a matter of what type of transport riders are choosing. My favorite reason for why taxis have been loosing to Uber is because apparently due to the TVs in taxis, according to the NYC Taxi Commission. And because of this the NYC Tax Commission is looking to either replace the TVs or get rid of them all together. What this shows is exactly what is wrong with the current taxi system. Users of Uber are not using it because the TVs in taxis are annoying. They are using Uber because its convenient, connected to their credit card, no need to tip, different selection of cars, reliability,
