To begin with, it is recommended that, while the former CEO is taking time off from his duties and tasks, the company should divide his responsibilities between other key staff members. This should be consistent with sharing the responsibilities with Kalanick, and in other cases, take over the total responsibility of his assignments. It will be this division of power that can help refocus the company and keep aligned with their mission statement, “make transportation as reliable as running water, everywhere, for everyone”. Our next recommendation is to use the power and influence of the position of the Chief Operating Officer to keep the company culture from regressing back to its former status. Currently, the board members are actively searching for a new COO. The board will need to use this time constructively to search for a person that can fill the role of the COO, maintain the day to day operations, as well as enforce the new standards of company policies ensuring a compliant corporate culture. However, Uber’s board of directors should be restructured to provide better oversight to the management teams of the company. Additionally, to ensure diversity and provide additional oversight, new members need to sit on the board with no ties to the company, but who have past experience as corporate directors. Also, Uber needs to establish an independent person to the board to provide independent oversight of managers. In a sense, this would present to the community that Uber is actively trying to change its culture. Moreover, in addition to establishing new positions on the board, an oversight committee should be established to monitor senior manager’s compliance with new company values and promote an ethical working
