In cross cultural psychology, uncertainty avoidance is a society's tolerance for uncertainty and ambiguity which ultimately refers to man's search for Truth. It indicates to what extent a culture programs its members feel comfortable or uncomfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity. Uncertainty avoiding cultures try to minimize the possibility of unstructured situations by implementing strict rules and regulations, laws, safety measures and security.

This concept reflects that United States has high acceptance for new ideas and innovations. The United States Constitution of Bill of Right is a great example of of why this country has low Uncertainty Avoidance Index. Most Americans stay true to the law and don't try to innovate a new Constitution; however it has been amended over time. Although the rules, it is more important to value acceptance of differences and change than it is to abide by one, traditional law (Hope In Culture).
