Thesis- The point that Beecher was trying to get across was that slavery was a horrific thing that needed to end. She does this via painful stories of slavery that show the cruelty of society, by asserting the argument that blacks deserve the basic human rights available to whites, and by displaying the rare but immensely appreciated empathy of some of the whites in the book.
Beecher realized and understood that most people were completely ignorant to the idea of slavery and to the conditions that slaves endured.
