Throughout the ages of time slavery has evolved from one thing to another and in very different forms. This generation is slavery based through labor and sex trafficking whether it is acknowledged or not. Even though people have seen movies, learned in school, and heard stories about slavery there is not a true connection to what life was like for a typical slave. “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”, written by Harriet Beecher Stow, begs to differ when being shown in even the littlest audiences. Not only does it point out how pitiful slavery was, it shows what jobs, living conditions, and relationships in slavery was like by a slave named Tom who worked at three different plantations during his life. To begin with, Uncle Tom finds himself and his family at the Shelby plantation owned by Arthur and Emily Shelby with their son George Shelby. The Shelby’s are all very kind, loving, and respect their slaves. In fact, George is Tom’s closest friend at this plantation. His relationship with Tom is horrible and it is suggested that Simon was jelous of tom, which is one of the reasons Tom gets beatings for no reason. Toms living quarters really is not something to brag about, for it was pretty much a shack with no doors or windows, and a bed made out of hay.
