Many children development at a specific rate where they begin to learn the environment they are in and begin to associate with the people around them. Terrible twos is one of the stages in the child’s early social development, typically around the age of two years, which is associated with defiant or unruly behavior. During this time, the two year old is learning how both his own body works and how people respond to his actions. It’s hard for him because he is both excited and frustrated with his independence. Now that he knows how to walk and somewhat talk, he thinks he could rule the world because he wants to explore his environment and test his limits. He starts to solve more complex problems and forms mental images for things, actions, and concepts. He also can solve more problems in his head by performing mental trial and error instead of having to manipulate objects physically. For example putting building blocks together and knowing how to attach them instead of not building it right. In addition, his memory and intellectual abilities develop and the sense of time becomes more evident. For example, a mother would tell her child, “ You could play a game after you finish eating.” Reasoning with your toddler if often difficult because they view everything in simple terms. The toddler still often confuses fantasy with reality unless he is actively playing make believe. Therefore, during this development, parents should choose their words wisely because the child may associate what they are trying to say with something bigger. For example, if a parent says, “ if you eat more food you will explode”, the child may thing that his belly may burst into
