My Theological understanding of God’s Revelation God’s revelation is a significant part of a human being’s existence. Although God was not forced to reveal Himself to humankind, He has done so. The importance of revelation is extreme, in that, if the scriptures are not revealed by God, they have the potential to be in error. If the book people use to know about God is wrong, they will, thus, be worshipping a false God. Throughout this paper I will discuss my preferred view of the inspiration of Scripture, explain why I chose that view as a lens, and how the Bibles authority informs my life as a Christian. First, I believe that God has inspired all scripture. I define scripture as the 66 books contained in the Old and New testaments. Erickson …show more content…
Peter further states that “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence” (2 Peter 1:3). I further believe that God is sovereign over all things (Ephesians 1:11), and He will not let His inspired word to be corrupted for the church (Mathew 24:35). The Bible is written for the church; God would not deprive his chosen sheep from his inspired word. I believe these two truths: God cannot lie (Titus 1:2, Hebrews 6:18), and all scripture is true (John 17:17, Mark 13:31). I agree with the reformers and hold to sola scripture, meaning not that everything (every word of Jesus, all history, etc.) is found in the bible, but rather that scripture is the sole, infallible rule of faith. The reason why I hold to this is because I believe the bible teaches it, and I emphasis the exegesis of the scriptures. I do not believe it is correct to smuggle our traditions into the reading of scriptures. Once as a person begins to believe that the scriptures are not inspired, they will no longer place their faith in the God of the bible, the true God. If one does not believe in the inspiration of scripture, it …show more content…
In matters not addressed directly by the Bible, what is true and right is assessed by things consistent with the Bible. Because salvation is in no one else (Acts 4:12), I believe that the Bible is the only message of eternal life. To believe in anything else besides the scriptures, is damnation. This view informs my life in several ways. The first is that I have the sole authoritative scripture that I base all my decisions and thoughts on. I trust God’s word, so when He says that I should wait to have sex until marriage (1 Corinthians 7:2), I obey His word. Although it might be a form a suffering, I believe that it is the best way to live. We, as Christians, have been given all things that pertain to life and godliness, thus the only place I need to go to know how to be godly is the bible. Traditions are sometimes good, but nothing other than scripture leads my life. Scripture informs how I think as well. I love what is stated in the Revelation 4 on authority (slide 8), that the Bible carries the same weight as if God Himself was here standing in the flesh speaking directly to us. I sometimes disagree with the bibles teaching, this could occur because of my situation or feelings, but when this occurs I must side with God’s word over what I think. This also means that I listen
