Sexuality and Children Trevor Endre Argosy University June 1, 2016 In this paper I am going to cover many topics regarding sexual abuse, sexual orientation, and the promotion of healthy sexual development. There are many forms of sexual abuse. But in this case this could possibly be curiosity more than sexual abuse. I will be explaining the differences between this situation and sexual abuse. I will also be responding to the teacher’s questions of whether or not the boys are gay. Children tend not to understand sexual orientation at the age of five years old. I will also be covering what recommendations to make to parents as well as the school itself on healthy sexual development. As for promoting healthy sexual development we must first explain what these children will do, and how to explain it to them. For example most children between the ages of two and five will occasionally masturbate. This tends to occur as a soothing behavior rather than a sexual one. A way to help with healthy sexual development would be to explain basic information about reproduction. Children will also explore consensual and playful exploration with children the same age. In order to help our children properly develop we should encourage a basic understanding of privacy and when things are appropriate and inappropriate. May show curiosity in regard to adult bodies for example wanting to go into the bathroom with parents, or touching women’s breasts. A way to help children understand that being touched a certain way is bad would be to, Teach children about boundaries. Also let children know that their body belongs to them and that they can say no to unwanted
