There are three types of memory sensory, short-term, long-term used in the human brain. Sensory memory, the shortest of all memory, lasts about ¼ to ½ of a second. Sensory memory is where all of the stimuli received through hearing, slight, smell, taste and touch is stored. Short-term memory is the second shortest memory, lasting 0-18 seconds, and can store 5-9 items at a time. Short-term memory is essential in many things, such as reading. This is because while reading you must be able to recall what the past couple sentences were in order to make sense of you you are currently reading. The longest of all memory is long-term memory. It was reported that in 2003, 8.8% of adolescents ages 4-17 have been diagnosed with ADHD. This number has continued to increase from 9.5% in 2007 to 11% in 2011. It is also reported that 13.3% of boys, ages 4-17 have been diagnosed with ADHD and 5.6% of girls, ages 2-17, have been diagnosed with ADHD (Center for Disease control and Prevention). There are several ideas on why people develop ADHD but it is not known for sure what exactly causes it. It is said that children born from mothers who drank or smoked during pregnancy have a higher risk of having a child with ADHD. It is also shown that babies born pre maturely or with a low birth weight also have high chances of developing ADHD. It has been discovered that in a brain diagnosed with ADHD the neurotransmitters and nerve pathways work differently compared to a brain with out ADHD and that children who have ADHD may have less active or a smaller parts of the brain then children with out the disorder. There are many symptoms of this disorder fails to pay close attention to details, is easily distracted, constantly fidgets/squirms in seat, shouts out answers, and constantly interrupts others
