• Describe what you did.
This week we focused on various methods of storing data and methods to efficiently access it. For our discussion assignment, I needed to analyze three different buffer management heuristics and explain the types of situations in which each might operate ideally. Additionally, I peer assessed the prior week’s assignments, took the self-quiz, and will be submitting this learning journal.
• Describe your reactions to what you did.
I found the assignment to observe and discuss the different buffer management methods interesting. It’s always helpful to me when trying to understand something to see it in action. I did have a tough time assessing my peer assignments. While all three that I assessed attempted to implement a quicksort I’d be hard-pressed to say that

Discuss how they were helpful.
There wasn’t much in the way of feedback this week without a unit 5 assignment. At the time I’m writing this, Tuesday the 20th, only myself and one other person have posted to our discussion assignment so there is not really anyone to have received or to give feedback to there either.
• Describe your feelings and attitudes.
In this week’s assessment, I came across, what I believe to be, another plagiarized portion of work. I’m pretty frustrated that I’m still coming across plagiarized work at the University of the People. It makes me wonder if the school is not actually following through on dealing with students that do so and makes me question with what value my degree will be held in once I receive it.
• Describe what you learned.
While I previously had an understanding of data storage it was good to broaden my understanding of how it is managed. Looking not only at the physical implementation of data storage, like buffers, but also how adding and removing data from them, such as within volatile memory devices, I think was very worthwhile.
