Define the problem-
Time is a measure of which events are ordered from the past to the present and future. Time defines who we are in many ways. It determines what you do in your day and how long you spend on your activities. Our criteria was a 3 minute timer and the size of the clock. Our constraints were it had to fit in a box, how fast the motor moves and the materials we have.
Research and Brainstorming process-
Our group wanted to do something different than what other groups were doing. We decided to create a spiral kinetic clock after doing lots of research online of what are possible creative ways of displaying time, we finally decided to start building. We observed many complicated designs selling for around 500 dollars, we decided

At first we made a Lego clock but that didn’t work. The Legos weighed too much, also the weight distribution was uneven so the motor couldn’t move the spiral made out of legos. We redesigned the clock to be made out of styrofoam because styrofoam is extremely light compared to multiple legos built together.
Redesign and final outcome-
We tested our device by inserting a marble in the center of the spiral and observing how long it would take for the marble to fall out of the spiral and into a glass cup. We adjusted the throttle so we could get the timer we created to be as close to 3 minutes. The project came out very well, but there are many variables for you to have a perfect timer. This was seen in our accuracy and precision test. Our results varied each trial by a few seconds.

Symbolism/Extended Metaphor-
When we created our clock we used the colors black and white, the yin yang color which represent peace. This connects to my understanding and relationship with time because time is peaceful. Our design represents my relationship with time. I am constantly moving with time, and this is represented in our creation. I represent the ball, I am constantly moving throughout my day. I go to school, work on the job, playing sports and preparing for college. These tasks are very important and require a lot of time. In addition, In English it relates to what we read. For example, the saying “time is a circle” is actually a circle in our
