Unwind is a young adult novel written by Neal Shusterman. This book is set across future America, a few decades after a civil war between the pro-life and pro-choice. To settle the war they came up with an alternative to suit both parties, unwinding. Unwinding is where a child’s parents or guardians can have their child’s body and organs donated to help others. 100% of the child’s body is used, from the brain matter to the hair follicles. This is accepted by most because they say that the unwound isn’t actually dead, but that live on through others because they never technically died. Nothing can be wasted or it’s against the law. Risa joins the camps band that plays set throughout the day on top of the operating room. Connor is very popular at the harvest camp. Word has passed about him using a juvey-cop’s gun against him and he is seen as I hero among the unwound. Lev is also as the camp, but he turned himself in willingly. It turns out that the job he volunteered for was a clapper cover-up. Clappers is a group of people the oppose unwinding and use explosive force to stop it. Lev has arrived at the camp with two others, all three of them have an explosive compound in their blood that will go boom with the activation of a detonator. Roland tries to gain followers at the camp, but is quickly unwound because he has a rare blood type. Later that day, Connor is scheduled because of his popularity. Lev finds out about this and plans him and the others to explode before he get unwound. As food as Connor gets into the operating room they explode; all but Lev. The operating room collapsed with Connor in it and Risa playing a set on top of it. Connor walks out of the room and quickly falls down. His arm and his eye is messed up. Risa becomes trapped in the room and Lev comes inside and rescues her. After that day Lev became known as the clapper that never
