The Urge to Kill: Development of a Murderer
A serial killer is defined as a person who kills more than three times at different locations (Ramsland, 2013).There is always a cause to a situation. A common question is why do they kill so many times? This is asked so many times, because there are a lot of serial killers. Finding reasons to why they commit murder is a starting point to answer the question. Many factors may include the perpetrator’s life like their childhood and them having some psychological damage to their brain, which leads to committing murder. Most adults know how to act appropriately, but adults that were scarred while growing up act differently. They would be diagnosed with a mental illness, murderers are categorized as psychopaths or sociopaths. The majority of society would consider a psychopath as a criminal, but not all psychopaths are criminals. Psychopathic traits could exist since the University of Wisconsin scanned the brains of psychopaths that committed a crime and they all had similarities, in their brain they all had a lack of negative stimuli (Brogaard, 2012). Which leads to saying some of these murderers or serial killers have a mental illness? So a person cannot be blamed for what their body decides to do, because they are not in control of their actions.
