Deontological ethics is a morals framework that judges whether an action is correct or wrong according to an ethical code. The results of those moves are not being given any thought.. This morals framework is proposed to be exact and by the book. Making the best choice intends to take after legitimate rules of conduct and, thus, advocate fairness and equality. On the other hand, utilitarian moral framework holds that what’s ethical is whatever maximizes total happiness while minimizing total pain. If you act ethically according to utilitarianism, you’re not maximizing your happiness, but the total happiness of the whole human race. A professor who is strictly deontological could respond in two different ways. He or she could see it through the lens of deontological universalism, where he or she would apply the rules to everyone, …show more content…

If the professor approaches my request through the lens of act utilitarianism, which argues that we should always choose our actions based on what will cause the greatest amount of happiness. Then allowing me to take the exam would make me really happy and not to mention it would make my family happy because I was able to take the exam and not miss out on the rest of the points. Imagining that the rest of the students would be ok with allowing me to take the exam that I had missed. This maximizes happiness while causing no future pain in this case. However, if the professor sees it through the lens of rule utilitarianism, it argues that we should figure out what sort of behavior usually causes happiness and turn it into a set of rules. Meaning the professor would say no because in general if the student misses a day of class or misses the exam, even if the student in the future would not miss a class again. The professor should follow the rule, according to this argument, even if in this particular case the rule is not
