Vaccines are integral to health and safety, however there are individuals intentionally forgoing the privilege to vaccinate (Anthony). There are a plethora of concerns that result from not vaccinating one’s self and especially one's child. The result of not vaccinating children can lead to them getting diseases that would have been avoidable. Children are required to be vaccinated to enroll in school, and even daycares (Zito), this is done to prevent unvaccinated children from transferring diseases or infections to children that cannot receive vaccination and to encourage vaccination in general (Zito). There will be difficulty in incorporating this mandate as it treads on two different grounds. This mandate denies the authority of the parents to control their children’s health and denies the rights of the individuals to be exempted from vaccination, from any circumstance, including religious. Therefore the mandate must tread carefully. Furthermore there is much controversy concerning the safety and necessity of vaccines; the anti-vaxxers group has been on the rise and strongly opposed the idea of vaccination, stating that it is unnatural and harms their children (Park). Another group of concern are the conservative individuals, opposing the idea of mandatory vaccination across the country; they see this as hampering their rights (Harvard). Both of these groups present a huge obstacle for the mandate to be passed, however compromise is out of the question and it breaks some of the very aspects of vaccination that allows it to be as successful as it is (Anthony).
