In order to demonstrate expected behaviour, values and attitudes in children and young people schools have developed a behaviour policy. The policy has to have clear manageable expectations, be fair, easy to understand and realistic.
Each school writes its own behaviour policy, it is normally developed by the head teacher in consultation with other senior people within the school. A behaviour policy, in effect outlines school rules and expectations that the pupils must adhere to. These rules should be clearly displayed in class rooms and around the school to remind pupils of expected behaviour. The idea of a behaviour policy is to ensure pupils are given every opportunity to take responsibility for their actions and make a full contribution to maintaining good behaviour throughout the school.
They have a proactive role to play both through the school council and as assistant play leaders and buddies. At the beginning of every academic year pupils work with their class teacher to establish a set of class rules. The pupils know and are taught what is expected of them, are aware of the school’s Code of Conduct and are asked to sign the Home School Agreement. Pupils should feel safe and secure at all times and know the procedures to follow if they are aware of or indeed subjected to any form of bullying.
The best possible way to achieve appropriate behaviour, must be to keep the children positively and actively involved in the work in hand. Teachers must manage classrooms well, and be wellorganised, as the children’s well-being depends on the maintenance of good order. In order
