Did you know that Venezuela has a total of only three heliports? This is just one astonishing fact, you will learn in this research paper. This paper will discuss Venezuela and its; history, government, geography, and transportation. Venezuela has a very fascinating and long history dating back to the 1500s. In 1521 Spain began to colonize what we now know present-day called Venezuela. It wasn’t until 300 years later in 1821 when Venezuela gained their independence from Spain and was led by Simon Bolivar. Venezuela has a Federal Republic government type. The Federal Republic government has three branches of government; executive, judicial, and legislative are the country’s branches. The executive election cycle is every six years. However, the judicial election cycle is every twelve years. Yet, the legislative election cycle is every five years (Venezuela: Introduction).
Venezuela Country Brief tells us that during the 1999 Constitution the government uses a democratically elected representative system with a powerful executive. It is located in the North of South America. Brazil, Colombia, and Guyana border Venezuela. In the northwest of Venezuela, that is where the Andes Mountains and the Maracaibo Lowlands lie. The Guiana Highlands though lies in the southeast. A pretty interesting fact is that Venezuela’s lowest part of elevation is the Caribbean Sea at zero meters. Another pretty interesting fact is that Venezuela’s highest point of elevation is the Pico Bolivar at 5,007 meters high. Venezuela’s climate is tropical; hot, humid; and more moderate in highlands. Venezuela is the thirty-third largest country in the world. Venezuela is about six times the size of Georgia. It is only a little more than two times the size of California. Venezuela has a total of 912,050 square km. of the area in the country. Venezuela has a total of 882,050 square km. of land. Venezuela has a total of 10,550 square km. of land irrigated (2012). Venezuela uses 24.5% of land for agriculture. They use 52.1% of land for forests as well. Venezuela has 30,000 square km. of water. The country’s geographic coordinates are 8 degrees 00N, 66 degrees 00W. Some natural resources in Venezuela are petroleum, natural gas, gold, iron ore, bauxite, diamonds, other minerals, and hydropower. Some natural hazards, though, are floods, periodic droughts, rockslides, and mudslides (World Factbook).
