Venezuela and United States “To survive in peace and harmony, united and strong, we must have one people, one nation, one flag.’’ This quotation of Pauline Hanson defines how important values are, not just for one person or one community, but for a whole nation. On one hand, we have Venezuelan people, and on the other hand American people. Even though these two countries have similarities in the weather and food, there are three major differences between Venezuela and United States.
Since the Creoles are American born, they have limited rights in Latin America compared to the Peninsulares who had the majority power. ”-we are struggling to maintain ourselves in the country that gave us birth against the opposition of the invaders.” (Document A).Also due to the creoles birthplace (Latin America), they have a limit of personal and property rights. “Will you recover the lands stolen three hundred years ago from your forefathers by the hated Spaniards?” (Document E).
Other than that knowing Spanish is another way to express yourself.
Part A – Both “Se Habla Espanol” and “Mother Tongue” are titles that manage to grab attentions; however, each does so in its own way. “Se Habla Espanol” is about a Latina women who is attempting to learn how to speak Spanish. Throughout the story, she talks about the struggles to learn it and the judgement that she receives from others for not already having a knowledge it. I feel like the simplicity of the title is what makes it so attractive for a reader. It made me want to read so that I could attempt to understand why she chose what could be considered a basic Spanish phrase when the translation of the title is “Spanish speaking.”
Their whole language is either Spanish or Spanish words adapted from English. By explaining how the language she grew up with is different from others is part of how she structures her essay. The author states, “Change, evolucion, enriquecimiento de palabras nuevas por invencion o adopcion have created variants of Chicano Spanish, un nuevo lenguaje” (Anzaldua 35). In Document A they’re disputing natives for titles of ownership, and the maintenance of the country. Their desire for power, equal representation in government, and economic control is another part of why they led the fight in the revolution against Spain. One of the main sources of independence sentiment was the growing rivalry between the Creoles and peninsular.
