Inequality is an important issue everywhere. It should be taken seriously and it should not be made fun of. When you don’t represent a certain gender correctly in certain message, the message that they don’t deserve to be represented correctly, and that their generalizations and stereotypes are more important than them. That is why I believe sexism against men in the video game industry is such an important topic.
Females have been represented in video games far better than men, and it’s as plain as day. Look at the most recent lineup for the Super Smash Bros. series. Surely a well known company such as Nintendo would think to put females and males on the same level for this game, right? Wrong! There are 55 playable characters in the game (including DLC), and 35 of them are male! You might think, “Hey, that seems like a pretty more than far number! Especially when you consider there are only nine playable female characters and 11 gender-ambiguous characters!” and you know, if it was that simple it would be. Strewn all over the industry are games about heroic males who go to war, save lives, and fall in love with smoking hot women, but I think that just glorifies the male experience! They are throwing the protagonist out into danger as if he was a piece of meat, and honestly it offends me. Men aren’t just made for saving the day, being tough, and having good character arcs! I mean, look at the representation females get! Princesses and queens in trouble, needing a man to save them. Even there we see the misandristic footprint that has been left by generations past. Women get to have the ideals of their entire gender pushed into every game a female protagonist is put into, yet men have to deal with the hardships and difficulty of finding a character they can relate to in such a diverse playing
