The Ardnamurchan Viking Ship Burial consisted of a Viking ship that was 5m long and 1.5m wide. 200 rivets and fragments of mineralised wood was all that remained of the vessel. The remains of a Viking were found within the boat. The remains consisted of two teeth and two small fragments of bone. Found with the body were weapons, including a sword with a decorated hilt, an axe, a spear and a shield. Also found was a whetstone from Norway, a bronze ring pin from Ireland, the tip of a bronze drinking horn and Viking pottery. The Viking was a male who had travelled often as shown by the wide origin of his possessions. He would have had a high status in his community, such as chieftain, as ship burials were only reserved for people of a high status.
